Competition Rules

Dear Competition Entrants, the 12 shortlist finalists have now been decided and are proudly displayed here. You can cast your votes now on who you judge the prize winners should be. Please accept our apologies for the delay - the number of entries exceeded expectations and the judging process has therefore taken longer than expected.

Holiday Inn photography competition sponsored by Olympus

The 2008 competition takes ‘Gardens in Bloom’ as its theme.

You've got until the end of August to capture an image and enter.

1. The subject for the Holiday Inn 2008 Photographic Competition sponsored by Olympus is Gardens in Bloom. The theme is open to individual interpretation but should have gardens, plants and flowers at its heart. There are many classic garden photos. Judges will be looking for slightly different perspectives where the photographer has used their own creative ideas and photographic ingenuity to represent the subject matter / composition in an inventive way, such as an unusual angle, lighting, blend of colours, striking composition of people and/or animals in a garden environment. The judging panel will include Ephotozine, so please feel free to visit the website www.ephotozine.com for tips and inspiration.
2. Entries must be taken in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.
3. Images may be digitally enhanced to remove spots or scratches, but not manipulated. Entrants can either enhance the picture to make it brighter, clearer etc, but not manipulate the content. The Olympus panel of judges reserve the right to exclude any image they believe may have been excessively treated so as to alter its authenticity.
4. The competition is open to UK residents only (including residents of the Channel Islands and Isle of Man). Employees of InterContinental Hotel Group, Olympus Plc, their agencies, as well as their immediate families are not eligible to enter.
5. Entrants must not be professional photographers.
6. Each entry should be marked with name, contact telephone number and where the photo was taken.
7. The closing date is 31 August 2008.
8. All entries will be judged by a panel of judges selected by Olympus. The judges will select a shortlist of twelve of the best photographs. Viewers will be invited to vote for the one they like the best. This 1st prizewinner will receive the 1st prize of an Olympus E3 camera / zoom lens plus a Holiday Inn weekend break. The 2nd prizewinner will receive an Olympus E-420 SLR camera plus a Holiday Inn weekend break. There will be 5 x 3rd prizes of an Olympus ‘tough’ compact camera mju850 plus a Holiday Inn weekend break. The Holiday Inn weekend break prize is for 2 people for 2 nights including a Saturday in any hotel in the UK or Europe including bed breakfast in a standard double or twin room. There is no cash alternative to the prizes awarded.
9. The judges' decision will be final and no correspondence can be entered into.
10. All entries must be original work and must not have been previously published. The entrants must be the sole owner of copyright in all photos entered and must have obtained permission of any people featured in the entries.
11. Entrants will retain copyright in the photographs that they submit. By entering the competition entrants grant the right for Holiday Inns or Olympus to publish and exhibit the short-listed photographs on their respective websites or in any other media. No fee will be payable for these uses. Finalists agree to take part in post-competition publicity.
12. By entering, entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these rules and Holiday Inn and Olympus reserve the right to exclude any entry from the competition at any time and in its absolute discretion if they have reason to believe that an entrant has breached these rules.
